GLSW’s Activity Base in North Wales

The Old Hall (in Welsh: ‘Yr Hen Neuadd’) is on the east side of the north end of the High Street in the village of Bethesda, north Wales, on the northern edge of the Snowdonia National Park.
Originally a Salvation Army Hall, it was converted in 1970 by the County Scout Council of Greater London South West to provide a base for the many activities available in North Wales to our members.
The Base has 30, mainly bunk, beds arranged as 8 + 8 + 6 + 6 + 2; a kitchen with a commercial six ring gas oven, toilet facilities and a drying room. There is a large, free, car park only a short distance away. Bethesda has a range of shops, including a Spar and Londis, all walking distance, and a Tesco about 10 minutes drive away (there are also Morrisons, Co-op, Aldi and Lidl within Bangor and Menai Bridge).
Situated at the northern edge of the Snowdonia National Park the base is ideally suited to mountain activities (walking, climbing, mountain biking), but it is also close to the lakes of Snowdonia and the sea, so is equally well suited to water activities. Why else would we have both the National Mountain Center (Plas y Brenin) and the National Watersports Centre (Plas Menai) both within 20 minutes drive? If you just want to chill, Anglesey and the north Wales coast are well supplied with beaches . . .
