DofE Enrolment

Do your DofE with GLSW County

How much does it cost?

Completing DofE through Scouts is excellent value and we have access to very experienced leaders who can deliver a high quality expedition experience at a reasonable price. Registering for the award costs £29 (Bronze and Silver) and £36 (Gold). This is made up of the cost charged to us by the DofE charity, plus a £1 admin fee to cover other costs such as printing and posting your certificates and badges when you complete the award.

If you are already enrolled in the Award elsewhere (e.g. with school) but wish to transfer your enrolment to GLSW, we only charge the £1 admin fee.

If you complete your DofE Gold Expedition with GLSW, we will refund the enrolment fee in the form of a deduction from the expedition costs.

The cost of completing sections of the award depends very much on the activities you choose.

The other element to consider is the cost of the expeditions. You can choose to do your expeditions with GLSW – we do our best to offer good value for money. For more information on our expeditions, see here.

How do I register?

You should first speak to your Explorer/Network Leader or your District DofE Lead (see here). You will need to meet the age requirements for each level of the award:

Bronze: Year 9 or above
Silver: Year 10 or above
Gold: Age 16 or older

You must be under 25 to register and must be a member of an Explorer Scout Unit or Scout Network Unit within GLSW.

To enrol, complete the GLSW DofE Enrolment Form and then email proof of payment to dofe@glswscouts.org.uk

To enrol in the next award level, you only need to have completed one of the sections from the previous level, not the entire award.

How do I track my progress?

Once you are enrolled, you will be sent your eDofE login details. This is where you will keep track of your progress towards your award. You should keep eDofE up-to-date as much as possible as it is the definitive record of what you have achieved.

When you first log in to eDofE, you will be sent a Welcome Pack in the post which has more information.

Remember to get an assessor report for every section you complete. Your assessor can complete their report online at dofe.org/assessor (they will need your eDofE ID number).

Expeditions

You can complete a variety of different types of expedition – walking is the most popular but it is also possible to complete sailing, canoe, horse riding and cycling expeditions. If your Explorer/Network Unit is not arranging an expedition you will need to sign up for an expedition yourself. This can be through Scouting or with another provider.

There is more information about GLSW expeditions here.

How do the DofE Awards link to the top Scouting Awards?

The Chief Scout’s Platinum Award, the Chief Scout’s Diamond Award and the King’s Scout Award have similar requirements to DofE awards and can be completed alongside them. You can complete any of these awards until your 25th birthday. You can find out more about what’s required here.
