Today, I’m pleased to be able to let you know that we have a new County Lead Volunteer for Greater London South West. Chris Wright will be taking up this key role in the County from December 1st, 2025.

Chris has been an adult volunteer in Scouts for just under 25 years. He initially volunteered with the 1st Ickenham Scout Group in GLMW from 2001 to 2007, holding the roles of Pack Assistant, Beaver Scout Leader, Group Treasurer and finally Group Chair before he moved to Royal Kingston District in 2008 where he established their District Fellowship Team before moving, in 2012, to the Petersham & Ham Sea Scout Group in Richmond upon Thames District.
At P&H, Chris has held section leadership roles across Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, was AGSL Cubs for 4 years and for the past 3 and half years has been the Group Lead Volunteer where he introduced a 9-strong Group Leadership Team structure in 2022 and saw membership rise to 278 Young People at the last census.
Chris has also been a key member of the Leadership Team at Erik Armstrong Explorers for the past 5 years, establishing the Poseidon section on Saturdays in 2019, and running their DofE expedition programme for the last 2 years. He was also a member of the GLSW Unit 36 Leadership Team at the last World Scout Jamboree in Korea, and has run other international trips to Germany, the Netherlands and Kenya over the past 3 years.
Outside of Scouting, Chris is married to Arlette, and they have 3 children aged 19, 17 and 14, all of whom are active in Scouting. He is a Senior Executive at SSP Group plc, a UK-based global food travel business, where he runs their Global Business Services division.
Following our many recent discussions, I’m looking forward to working closely with Chris and the County Leadership Team. Please join me in welcoming Chris to his new role.
Kind Regards,
Richard Williams
