Mountain and Navigation Skills Training
GLSW and Surrey Scouts Peak ASU - Events 2021
Peak ASU, the joint GLSW and Surrey Active Support Unit for mountain activities, is running a programme of training courses in 2021 for adults who want to gain the skills to take their young people, of whatever age, into the Great Outdoors, whether that be Beavers doing a short hike in the countryside, Explorers scaling mountains, or anything in between.
- One is for two navigation training days, which are being run locally in March and September and are suitable for anyone wanting to learn or brush up on their basic navigation skills (map and compass work and navigating a group along a route in easy countryside)
- The other is for three mountain skills training weekends, which are held in Bethesda, Snowdonia in February/March, May and November, and are intended for those who want to gain or practice their mountain skills or to be assessed for a permit to lead/supervise groups in Terrain 1 or Terrain 2.
The May trip also has capacity for anyone wanting to do so to be trained or assessed to take young people climbing on natural rock crags.
If anyone is interested in taking part in any of these training or assessment opportunities, bookings are being taken online below; more details are on the flyers below.
