SUMMARY:Operation Red Flare 2025
DESCRIPTION:Bookings for Operation Red Flare 2025 are now open. Following this year’s event we have made a number of changes based on the lessons we have learnt. The event will be held on 15th and 16th March 2025. The location will be announced closer to the event.\n\nAs per last year we will be completing one NAN form and so all Leader’s and Young People must be registered by Friday 28th February 2025. We will be using a new booking system this year which should help to reduce the administration of the event. As always feedback is greatly appreciated on this and we will shortly get in touch with the booking leader with details.\n\nThe pricing structure for this year’s event has been updated and is as follows:\n£50 per team entry (including 4 team members)\n£8 per additional team member (up to a maximum of 7 total team members)\n\nUntil 31st December 2024\, each unit can enter a maximum of one team unless their explorer unit is larger than 40 members where they can enter a maximum of two teams. From 31st December 2024 extra team bookings will be able to be made up until Friday 21st February 2024.\n\nThe rules for this year’s event can be found here. As a reminder\, Operation Red Flare is a physically demanding event\, and a good level of navigation ability is expected. The conditions are often adverse and being able to navigate at night is an important aspect of the event. Please ensure that the teams entered are capable of taking part and consider if they are less experienced entering them as a non-competing team with an adult leader to build up confidence.\n\nAs with all events of this scale\, we require a large number of adult volunteers to help run and support this event. Without these leaders we cannot run the event safely and it will not be able to go ahead. For this event\, we can confirm there will be indoor accommodation available for adult volunteers should they require it. We are looking for volunteers for the following roles:\n\n\n\n\nRole Name:\n\n\nResponsibilities:\n\n\nNumber Required to Run Event:\n\n\n\n\nCheckpoint Team Leader\n\n\nOverall Responsible for Running of a Checkpoint. This includes:\n\nManaging the flow of Young People through the Checkpoint\nEnsuring Wait Time is Recorded\nCommunicating with Control\nEnsuring Check In and Check Out Times are Recorded\nEnsure the Activity (if applicable) is being run safely and fairly\nEnsure Young People are fit and happy to continue on the Event\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCheckpoint Team Member\n\n\nAs delegated from the above.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdult Welfare Team Member\n\n\nThroughout the event checking on Adult leaders running Checkpoints to ensure they are safe and have everything they need to run a checkpoint.\n\n\nMinimum 2\n\n\n\n\nRegistration Team Member\n\n\nCheck in Young People at the start of the event and ensure all team members are at the event. Also ensure they have their personal medication needed as flagged by the registration system.\n\n\nMinimum 2\n\n\n\n\nSearch and Rescue Team Member\n\n\nRespond to Rescue requests from the Control Team. Flag any issues with Control. Ensure teams are not using disallowed roads. Check on the welfare of teams as necessary\n\n\nMinimum 4\n\n\n\n\nCatering Team Member\n\n\nProvide hot drinks and snacks for returning teams and leaders. Cook and serve breakfast on the Sunday morning.\n\n\nMinimum 2\n\n\n\n\nActivity Lead\n\n\nDefine and create the Activities for the teams to undertake at the various checkpoints. SUMMARY:Red Flare
DESCRIPTION:      GREATER LONDON SOUTH WEST COUNTY SCOUT COUNCIL \n                  OPERATION RED FLARE 2022 – 40th Year \n  \nOperation Red Flare takes place on 26-27 November 2022\, and is open to teams of Explorer Scouts and Ranger Guides in GLSW and Explorers from neighbouring Counties \n  \nDetails are as follows:- \n\nLocation is the Surrey Hills\nStart: 1st Horsley Scout Group Headquarters (TQ 088548)\nFinish: To be disclosed in due course\nRoute: 20-25 km long with activities at checkpoints and camping overnight at the finish.\nTeams will comprise 4\,5\,6\,or 7 Explorer Scouts or Ranger Guides\nThe permitted age range is between 14th and 18th birthday at the date of the event.\nThe cost per team is £44.25 payable with entry on Trybooking.\nEntries: Recognised Units\, including Young Leader Units\, may enter 1 team initially by a deadline of 15 October up to a maximum total of 25 teams. (This is to encourage as many Units as possible to enter a team). After that team entries will be accepted on a first come first served basis up to an overall maximum of 35 teams by the final deadline of 5 November. No Unit may enter more than two teams.\nA kit list and joining instructions\, including check-in and start times\, will be sent to all teams soon after 5 November.\nRefreshments: There will be refreshments at the finish and a simple breakfast meal before results are declared on the Sunday morning at 0900 hours.\nScoring: Points will be awarded for accuracy in navigation\, activities at checkpoints\, and time taken to complete the journey.\nTrophies and certificates: There will be trophies for the winners and other categories\, including novices and visitors (kindly donated)\, plus the much sought after ‘wooden spoon’. Certificates will be presented to all teams which take part.\nNAN Forms will need to be completed by each Unit taking part. A health form for each participant completed by the parent/carer will need to be handed to the organisers at the beginning of the event. This is compulsory: no health form\, the participant won’t be able to take part. An overall event risk assessment will be written by the event organisers and shared with everyone involved in the event.\nCheckpoint Marshalls: Please contact Chris Dean if you are willing to run a checkpoint. All adults acting as judges etc must be DBS checked.\nUnit Leaders’ Meeting: This will be by Zoom on Wednesday 9 November at 8.00 pm.
