Operation Red Flare will be taking place again in 2012 and it would be really good to see as many as possible from Sutton District taking part. We have an excellent pedigree, with Worcester Park ESU last year's victors and a number of top 10 and podium finishes over the years. Red Flare is a fantastic event that I guarantee you will thoroughly enjoy if you give it a go! For those of you who have taken part in the Scout section's Night Adventure Exercise/the Tate Shield, it is a bigger version of that, played out over a much longer route with a lot more independence, but that description doesn't really do it justice.
The date is 3 March 2012, the event will be run from Blackland Farm campsite south of East Grinstead and entry forms and more details are available on the County website (here) or from Chris Dean (firstname.lastname@example.org).
It would be good to see teams from as many Sutton units as possible, and also if we can muster one (or more!) some Young Leader teams as well. Entry is £7 per participant and includes overnight camping and breakfast on Sunday morning.
Please note - demand is high this year and of the 30 spaces, I think 10 have already been taken so don't delay in getting your entries in!

Now in their fourth year, Scouts Speak Up are interactive events for Explorers, Young Leaders, Network members and their leaders to meet with MPs and councillors from across the country, during the party conference season.
A plan to encourage teenagers into the outdoors is being launched by the Lake District National Park. Open to 14-18 year olds, the scheme will launch in the autumn and will enable young people to assist the National Park rangers with their work - specifically in the areas such as Haweswater and Thirlmere, which are owned by United Utilities, who are supporting the scheme and offering training.
Potential recruits should enquire at email@example.com
This might appeal to Explorer Scouts generally and specifically to those interested in hillwalking and/or looking for something to do for their DofE/Scouting Awards.
